Jewelry for a flower girl.

On June 4th, D and I are getting married.  Today I made a bracelet and necklace for my little flower girl to wear.
I had some pearls leftover from a past project and I bought the blue beads a few months ago, but wasn't sure what to do with them.

Does anyone actually read this?

  • Hello readers!  I just thought I would do a quick informal poll about ways to improve my blog.
  • What do you like about my blog?
  • What do you think I could do to improve it?
  • Do you want to see step by step instructions for some of my projects or are you fine just looking at the final product.
  • I don't know why this is in point form, but I am too lazy to try and re-format it, so it is what it is.

Casino Cake Topper

I mentioned in some previous posts that someone had hired me to make a casino themed cake topper for a 65th birthday party.

Well it is finally finished.  I am not 100% satisfied with how it turned out, but it's not too bad.  It just isn't quite what I pictured in my head.

Everything on there is hand made from polymer clay except for the ribbon (obviously) and the dice.  I tried to make some dice but they looked lopsided so I gave in and just bought some from the dollar store.

So that is one project complete, now I just need to get my butt in grear and finish the rest of my half finished projects.

That's all for now.

I am a great starter, now I have to work on finishing.

As the title of this post suggests, I am great at starting projects, but sometimes it is difficult to find time to finish them.  I keep starting new projects despite the fact that I already have several that I need to finish.
Here are some examples of my unfinished projects.
This is the mat I am knitting using old plastic shopping bags.

EXTREME CLOSEUP!!!!!!

If I ever get my act together and learn how to crochet, I would like to crochet some reusable shopping bags out of old plastic bags.

I am also working on a latch hook rug for my mother in-law.  She bought this for herself but then decided that it would hurt her hands to much so she gave it to me.  I would like to get it done for her for Christmas, but at the rate I am going I don't see that happening.

Lastly I am slowly but surely working on the casino theme cake topper.  It is so close to being finished and I am pretty excited.

I can't wait to actually put it all together.

On a completely unrelated not.  I am thinking about doing a give away on this blog, but I need to decide what to give away and I think I should probably wait until I have at least 10 followers.  So in other words don't expect a give away anytime soon.

Just some stuff I made.

I just wanted to show off some of the minor projects I have made with polymer clay.

First off is my favorite project, it is a lady bug family magnet set.
Next is another magnet.  It is a turtle that I made from some scraps from another project, hence why it is a black, white, and grey turtle.

Last is a tiny little chair, also made from scraps.  I placed the nickel beside it to give you an idea how small it is.  I need to sand it a bit so it looks less rough, and honestly I don't know what I am going to do with it.

That's it for today.  If I get my act together I will actually post some pictures of the mat I am making out of plastic shopping bags.

Frustration!!!- a vent.

I tend to build things up in my head.  What ever I am planning it will always be the best ever... at least in my head.  I have lofty goals but reality rarely lives up to what I had pictured
This time my "best plan ever" was my plan to make money by selling jewelry and custom made cake toppers on the internet.
I was convinced that once I started my Etsy.com store I would be making money like crazy.  That really hasn't happened yet and I am a little sad.
I know that I have only been pursuing this little venture for about a month so I really shouldn't feel frustrated yet, but I do.
Part of me wants to stop making jewelry until I actually sell something.  The other part of me wants to keep spending money on beads and other materials until the day that I actually get a sale.

I also have a ton of polymer clay that I bought on sale because I wanted to be prepared for all the cake topper orders I was going to be getting.  I have had 1 order so far.  I know that that really isn't that bad but I thought it would be more.

Okay I am done whining.

What I did this morning at 6am

As the title suggests I was up early this morning, I just couldn't sleep so I decided to make some jewelry.
First I made a simple bracelet with some pearls and turquoise that I had left over from the cake topper shown in my very first blog post.  I am sure there is some way to link that post, but I am to lazy to care.
It's kind of big and chunky.
Readers I want your honest opinion, what do you think of this bracelet.  Sometimes I think it is nice, other times I think it is tacky.

Next is some pictures of a purple necklace and braclet I made.

The picture really doesn't show the colours very well at all, but you get the idea.  If it is sunny tomorrow I will take some pictures using natural light,  those seem to turn out better.

And finally here are some slightly better pictures of the necklace I made back in August.

And here is me wearing said black necklace.  I tried to edit out my double chin, but I kind of failed.

I suck at blogging

It's been a while since I updated, I suck I know.
I have been working on several different things but I don't have pictures of any of them right now :(
I am knitting a mat made out of plastic shopping bags.  I hope to post some pictures and a how-to guide soon.
I am still working on the Casino cake topper.  I have finished the poker chips.  I am debating wether I want to make some dice from the polymer clay or just go buy some.  I may stop at the dollar store tomorrow after work to see what they have for dice.  I want clear red dice.

That's really all I have to say for now.  I hope to post some pics of my current projects in the next couple days.  I may not have time though,  Friday is D and I's anniversary.

My attempt at jewelry making

A couple weeks ago I went to the craft store with my grandmother.  She was very interested in the fact that I wanted to start making jewelry.  She didn't really listen to the part where I said I wanted to make my own beads with polymer clay.  Any way she told me to get what ever beads etc. that I wanted.  I picked out a the cross in the photos below because my grandma liked it and wanted to get it for me.
Anyway tonight I made a necklace and matching bracelet.  I am going to sell them on my etsy.com store.  I am not sure how much to charge though.

Current projects

I am currently working on two projects right now.
The first is a knitting project.  I promised my aunt I would knit her a bag, similar to the ones I made for my sisters (see my second blog post).  She asked if I could add a pocket on the side for a cell phone.
The bag pictured below was going to be for my aunt, but now I think that it won't be wide enough for a side pouch.  So one of these days I will go shopping for some more yarn so I can make her the purse I promised her last year.

As you can see I still have a lot to do before it will be finished.  I am using two kinds of yarn and knitting them together.

I am also working on a Casino themed cake topper for a 65th birthday party.  Today I finished the playing cards

These will be arranged in a fan-like way to spell out DINO.
I know that they are far from perfect, but I don't really know if I can get them any better.

I am going to start on the base of the topper tomorrow.  I am also going to try and figure out what will be the best way to make poker chips.

Well, it's past my bed time.
Good Night.

Followers I Haz Them!

I have two followers!!!!!!!  Yes I am that excited.  My offer for a prize for my first follower still stands, and I will extend the offer to my second follower as well.  All you ladies need to do is message me.

Now for something completely different.  I just had what I think is a great idea.  I think I may start making flowers out of polymer clay (of course) with jewels in the center.  Specifically birthstones and birthmonth flowers.  Does that make sense, if not here is an example.  The flower for June is rose and the birthstone is pearl.  So I would make a rose with a pearl in the center.
I think I will make a couple and see if they sell on etsy.

That's all I have to say for now.

Below are some of my past projects (the ones I have pictures of anyway)

This is a purse that I made for my sister.

Another purse.  I was experimenting with different kinds of yarn and changing the pattern slightly.  This was for my other sister.

This picture is a bear I made for my nephew.  I miss read the instructions in a major way but I was able to salvage it (that is why it has such long legs).  D says that the bear looks like the Wicker Man.
Nephew carries around all the time, and calls it his baby.

This is a necklace I made for my 4 year old cousin.  I was experimenting with different bead making techniques and I didn't like how it turned out so I switched gears.  I made the fan pendant out of my mistake.  I didn't think that it looked that great but D said it reminded him of a butterfly and he like how it looked.
I am not 100% happy with how this turned out but my little cousin is happy.  4 year olds are so easy to please.

Below is a picture of a dinosaur I made for my 6 year old cousin.  Since I made his sister a necklace, I couldn't get away with not bringing him a treat.

That's all for now.

Insert clever blog title here!

Well I kind of suck at this whole blogging thing, which is okay because I don't have any followers.
I am pretty excited because this weekend I got my first order for a custom cake topper.  It is going to be a casino theme topper for a 65th birthday.  I start work on it this weekend so hopefully I will soon have pictures to share.
I hope to do another blog post tonight to show off past projects.

One final note: Speaking of followers and my lack of them.  I have decided that I am going to give a prize to my first follower.  I don't know what the prize will be yet, but I am thinking probably jewelry or maybe I will let that lucky first follower request what they want (as long as it is something I can make.)

Well that's all for now.

My first post

Well this is my very first post in my very first blog.
This is a cake topper I made for my hubby's cousin's wedding reception.  It was my very first attempt at a cake topper and I think it turned out pretty good.  D (hubby) deleted the other pictures off my camera, but I may try to see if I can steal them off of facebook and post them here.
Here ends my first post ;)
